You will be working with a partner to create a presentation about one of the themes from the book The Watsons Go to Presentation. Then you will research examples of the same theme that are found in the Civil Rights Movement, the time period where our book takes place.
Each group will have their own page on this wiki to share what they have learned with the class. You can get to your page by clicking on Group Wiki Pages on the right hand side.
You will be making a Google Drive presentation with examples about one of the themes. Then you will be using Screencast-O-Matic to make a recording.
You will add the link to your recording to your wiki page, so your classmates can watch it.
Once you find a partner, please add your name and your partner's name to the Google spreadsheet below. You can add your names directly from here.
Directions
1.Once you have chosen your partner and added your names to the spreadsheet, choose one of the following themes from The Watsons Go to Birmingham. After you choose a theme, type it next to your names on the spreadsheet. No more than two groups can do a presentation about the same theme.
Please look at this presentation to learn questions to ask yourself when looking for examples of themes.
2. Locate five examples of the theme you chose by looking in The Watsons Go to Birmingham book. Look for specific details to support the theme. You should be looking for specific events or characters words, thoughts, or actions. If you want to take notes as you find examples in the book, feel free!
3. Once you find five examples of the theme, then start creating your Google Drive presentation. Make sure that you and your partner can edit the same presentation. Start with a title slide with your first names. Then put each example on a different slide. Feel free to add any pictures (copy and paste the URL, of course!).
4. Once the examples of the theme from the book are added to your presentation, then search for examples of the same theme from the Civil Rights Movement. Work with your partner. Use the following search engines to help:

7. After you make your recording, go to your Group Wiki Page and post the link to your presentation there. You can also write anything else on that page to share what you have learned with your classmates. Perhaps you could share your favorite parts of the book, favorite quotes, or lessons that you learned from what the characters experienced. You can be as creative as you want, but remember that everyone can see this page. Be safe and respectful!
